Argentina Had Better Win

Or life in my house will be void of joy for at least a week

For my significant other, there isn't much that she loses her mind over. She is the definition of emotional intelligence.

Argentine World Cup Football is one of those events where her sanity and my safety come into question. I learned this reality in 2014 when as her boyfriend, I traveled to Buenos Aries with her to meet her parents and watch Argentina play in the finals at the World Cup.

They lost, and the whole country was in gloom.

Once I learned the sport, I fell in love with it. Until 2014, I had not given much attention to soccer. I enjoyed playing team sports as a young man, but as an adult, being a spectator watching others chase different-sized balls around some field of play seemed like a bad use of my time.

I enjoy the Olympics, Judo and Surfing are my sport, so I get charged watching those matches. It doesn't escape me that no one is chasing round balls in those sports. I get the whole narrative around country pride while watching your country compete on a world stage. With that being said, once my life partner showed me her passion for football, I went all in, at least for the world cup.

Forward to the 2022 World Cup Matches

Here is the thing, being born an American and having Mexican and German blood in my veins, means, I potentially have three world cup bragging rights at my disposal.

A poorly manifested belief as far as my spouse was concerned. It didn't matter that I could now explain and speak her language of football. I was and am always the American when it comes to football. I always cheer Argentina or am banned from the family entertainment room. An entertainment system that I selected and assembled.

To make matters worse, my spouse had remarked while watching one of the matches, β€œI hope Messi wins his cup; he deserves it.” I returned with, β€œWell, maybe deserves is wrong, more like it would be nice for him to win.” My argument is to deserve it, he has to earn it. Of course, this was not taken well, and I should have known better.

β€œIf they win, then he deserves it!!” β€” spouse blinded by blue and white

β€œOf course, my love, I see your point β€œβ€” spouse in retreat

I have a surprise for her

Many family and friends are coming tomorrow from Argentina for the holidays. The house will be filled with Argentinians for Sunday's game. Not one of them will hear me cheer for France for many reasons. The most important one is that I am all in for Argentina. Contrary to my spouse's perspective, I have earned bragging rights. Fifteen years of being in a relationship with an Argentinian through thick and thin gives me that right.

Further, I am not a fan of the French; I chalk it up to the worst experience I have ever had while traveling, not just cliche. I will say I love french hip-hop but give me a Napa Valley Cabernet over any Bourdeaux every day of the week. I have never found a Bourdeaux that lived up to the hype.

Ok, so what is my surprise?

I am not sure how these were available and not already snatched up by FIFA or others, but yesterday, I acquired the dotcom names-

www.ArgentinaWorldCupChampions2022.com and www.ArgentinaWorldCup.com, finally www.ArgentinaWorldCup2022.com

I also trademarked them.

Hopefully, Argentina wins by outplaying France. If that happens, I plan to publish a landing page immediately, with the names of our family and friends congratulating the team and Argentina.

My Holiday Gift.

I know all you sports fans out there are saying, Noooo, dont jinx it; well, first off, I dont believe in that nonsense. Still, to make sure, I also acquired the same IP for France and Morrocco (now worthless), and if France pulls it off, I will publish that landing page with the one friend I have from France congratulating her country and team. She will be so stoked.

I am confident that this neutralizes any bad juju or jinxes that may or may not be floating out there as I publish this. Ok, I am off to buy my Argentina Jersey so I fit in on Sunday. Go Argentina!

This is my last writing on Medium for the year. My Goal was 12, which I accomplished. I was working on a whole other story when this story began to gnaw at me. I sat down and wrote it in two hours; it just flowed. I hope you get the humor in it.

Here is my best-received story on Medium to date

Here is my personal favorite

I leave you with a song I wrote and produced. It made number one on an independent top ten chart for indies. If you like Ukulele songs, you will find this one fun.

Happy Holidays and see you in 2023
