I got a great job at a supermarket, union, 12 bucks an hour great Manager great company. Moved up to 20 bucks an hour till college. Cashiers made 29.00 an hour… this was in the 80s. I still wait in line to go to a cashier instead of a robot.

Unions were not perfect … but they absolutely were better than 1099s
