I would argue this point- Record sales was NEVER a source of real revenue for artists. I grew up around many of them and touring was always the way. Now the ones who were brilliant and kept their publishing did ok -if the media promoted them or they had a loyal base.

Greed is the American way and you nailed it in the first part of this write up- we live in an auction society. We are lost.
